No-exam life insurance
An overview of who can use fast-track underwriting, how the process functions, and how things work if you don't qualify.
Most carriers now provide fast-track underwriting: within specified age bands and benefit limits, they render decisions based on your application along with prescription data, driving records, and similar resources rather than ordering a medical exam. In many instances, you get an answer within hours of submission. Our quotes note whether each product requires a full exam, may require one, or needs neither.
What it changes
Passing on a medical exam does not bypass the underwriting review. Your statements are still confirmed, and policies issued with false information may be challenged in the first two years. Should information in the carrier's records trigger concerns, they may require an exam or additional testing; you retain the choice to move ahead or withdraw.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, you qualify if you are under roughly age 60, applying for an amount within the carrier's limits for fast-track review, have no serious health issues, and have not used tobacco in a year or longer. Several carriers will also accept results from a recent doctor's visit with blood work in place of their exam.
Should you need an exam, a paramedical specialist will visit you at home or your workplace in the Newark area for a session lasting 20 to 30 minutes—free of charge. An exam frequently results in a better rate tier for individuals in good health, so it is not necessarily unfavorable.
